On Friday September 12th, Jonsara Ruth (Salty Labs), Mimi Hoang (nARCHITECTS), and Sunil Bald (Studio SUMO) joined David J. Lewis at LTL's office to judge submissions to the Central States AIA awards. The Central States region encompasses Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Winners will be announced in October.

Opening: Seaman Corporation Headquarters
LTL's redesigned Seaman Corporation Headquarters in Wooster, Ohio, recently had its official opening. This project transforms an existing office interior and expands the building to accommodate the growth of the company. Check back soon for an updated project page.
LTL designed Steeplechase Pier featured in BKLYNR
The Steeplechase Pier at Coney Island is the subject of BKLYNR's August cover story. The article, "Pierless," traces the structure's layered history, from its creation in 1904, through its destruction during Hurricane Sandy, to its reconstruction with LTL Architects in 2013.
Brown Institute Prepares for Opening
In anticipation of the official opening in September, The Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Columbia University’s School of Journalism hosted a reception this past week organized by Mark Hansen, the Brown Institute’s Director, for the project team and stakeholders. As part of the event, Marc Tsurumaki signed the space. In addition, artist Shantell Martin has begun a commissioned mural that wraps the project’s staircase in a continuous wall drawing. The mural will be completed as a live performance during the Brown Institute’s Fall opening.
New Design: Gallaudet University MSSD Residence Hall
LTL's design for Gallaudet University Model Secondary School for the Deaf was selected as the runner-up in an invited design competition. LTL's proposal defines a series of carefully orchestrated outdoor and indoor spaces which visually and programmatically connect the new building to the existing campus. LTL previously worked with Gallaudet University on Living and Learning Residence Hall 6.
Brown Institute for Media Innovation at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Nearing Completion
Construction is entering the final phases on the LTL-designed Brown Institute for Media Innovation. Located in McKim, Mead and White’s historic Pulitzer Hall, the project creates a double-height, collaborative work environment to facilitate the development of new digital platforms for contemporary journalism. When complete, the space will incorporate a 360-degree internal façade – a translucent scrim for projection and light diffusion – mobile furniture elements, and a variety of meeting and office spaces. Occupancy of the Brown Institute will begin in July and the official opening will take place in the Fall.
New Project: The Canopy Connector for University of Wyoming
The Canopy Connector provides a physical link between the University of Wyoming main Education Building and the Education Annex building. The water-jet cut pattern of the aluminum panels mirrors that of the bamboo screen in the LTL designed Sullivan Family Student Center, constructed for the University in 2011.

LTL Architects completes NYU Steinhardt School Renovation
LTL Architects is pleased to announce the completion of the NYU Steinhardt School East Building Renovation. Located in NYU's historic Greenwich Village campus, this renovation of over 70,000 square feet of space addresses both the shifting programmatic needs of a major academic organization and provides infrastructural upgrades for the Steinhardt School East Building to meet LEED Gold standards.

LTL Architects reimagines the future of parking
Last Thursday, along with the Long Island Index, LTL Architects unveiled to the public its designs for rethinking single-use surface parking systems on Long Island. LTL Architects' proposal focused on the Village of Westbury. The design integrated parking, terraced housing and civic space adjacent to the Long Island Rail Road to enrich the downtown and support smart economic growth as a model for future development.
The event was held by the nonprofit Rauch Foundation at Adelphi University, which also featured proposals on the future of Long Island by Utile Inc. Architecture + Planning, DUB Studios, and Roger Sherman Architecture. CBS, Newsday, and NBC were present to report on the event.
The Long Island Index unveils the ParkingPLUS Design Challenge
Presented by the Long Island Index, LTL Architects will unveil its design on the rethinking of parking facilities in downtown areas of Long Island. LTL Architects, one of four firms chosen to participate in the Challenge, will be sharing its ideas on how to utilize space and bring new amenities to downtown areas tomorrow, January 16, 2014 at 8 am at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center in Garden City, NY.
The firms, their office locations, and the communities with which they will be paired, are as follows:
- dub studios (New York City and Los Angeles) will work with Patchogue;
- LTL Architects (New York City) will work with Westbury;
- Roger Sherman Architecture and Urban Design (Los Angeles) will work with Ronkonkoma;
- Utile, Inc. (Boston) will work with Rockville Centre.
Louis I. Kahn Citation Awarded to LTL's NYU Steinhardt School Design
LTL Architects is featured in the November issue of American School & University for receiving the Louis I. Kahn Citation for the renovation of New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, East Building Renovation.

Steeplechase Pier at Coney Island Redesigned + Reopened
The iconic Coney Island Steeplechase Pier, re-imagined by LTL Architects, is open. The project is part of the beach access restoration initiative undertaken after Hurricane Sandy by New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and the Department of Design and Construction.
