LTL Architects was asked to carry out a study for a new academic center that would integrate digital production technologies and interdisciplinary academic spaces for a college which is looking to engage new pedagogical models. As part of this study, LTL completed extensive research on existing approaches to digital and interdisciplinary pedagogy, researching over thirty colleges and universities to catalog their adaptations to the increased roles of technology and collaboration in education and academia.

As part of this research, LTL focused on the emerging makerspace typology, which provides digital production technologies such as 3D printers and programming equipment, and often combines social and academic space. This research informed this design:  a prototype for the future of liberal arts teaching.
